Rubin 8-AIS (Automatic Identification System) is to test the AIS signal receivers in orbit and the data transmission via Orbcomm and Iridium networks.

One AIS module containg a solar panel and the AIS-receiver (similar to the modules used in Rubin-7-AIS) is firmly attached to the adaptor section of the fourth stage of the PSLV-CA launch vehicle. It will not be separated from the upper stage.

Rubin-8-AIS was successfully launched on 28. April 2008 on a PSLV-CA from India.
