Omid is the first Iranian built and launched satellite. It is a small technology satellite carrying an instrument to measure the space environment, and a GPS receiver modified for use in the unstabilized satellite.

A preannounced first attempt to launch a satellite on 17. August 2008 failed, when the second stage malfunctioned. The second attempt on 2. February 2009 was successful.
