China's geostationary meteorological satellite program FY-4 (Feng Yun 4) is the second generation of chinese geostationary meteorological satellites. These satellites will replace the earlier FY-2 series.

FY-4 is a three-axis-stabilized spacecraft based on the SAST-5000 bus. Two satellites will be positioned at 86.5°E and 105°E. A third position at 123.5°E is also under consideration.

Following instruments will be carried by the FY-4 series satellites:

  • GIIRS (Geostationary Interferometric Infrared Sounde)
  • LMI (Lightning Mapping Imager)
  • AGRI (Advanced Geostationary Radiation Imager)
  • SEMIP (Space Environment Monitoring Instrument Package)
  • DCS (Data Collection Service)
