Intelsat Corporation has awarded in August 2008 a contract to Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) to manufacture Intelsat 17 (IS-17), a new, high-power C- and Ku-band fixed satellite service (FSS) satellite.

Intelsat 17 will replace Intelsat-702 at 66° E.
